Cavs’ Strus to miss six weeks with ankle injury

The Cavs will be without their starting small forward, Max Strus, to start the season. The team announced Saturday that Strus sustained a right ankle sprain during individual workouts on Thursday, October 17. An X-ray and MRI confirmed the severity of the sprain.

According to the team, Strus will be reassessed after six weeks of treatment and rehabilitation, and his status and return to basketball activities will be updated as appropriate.

Strus missed two preseason games (vs. Indiana and at Detroit) with a right hip contusion before the ankle injury kept him out of the preseason finale in Chicago on Friday.

Last season, the 28-year-old averaged 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per contest. Without Strus, Isaac Okoro or Caris LeVert could step in at the small forward spot.

Cleveland begins the regular season Wednesday night on the road against the Toronto Raptors.

Cavs waive four:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived Pete Nance, Jules Bernard, Zhaire Smith, and Jacob Gilyard.

The current roster stands at 17 players, including three two-ways.

There is a good chance that all four player will be on the Cavs G-League team.
