In the NFL, it’s hard to win when you turn the ball over, and for the New York Jets, that was the case on Sunday in London against the Minnesota Vikings.
Aaron Rodgers threw three interceptions, including a pick-six and an interception on the final drive, as the Jets (2-3) lost their second straight as they fell to the Vikings (5-0) 23-17.
Last week, the Jets could not get into the end zone in their loss to the Broncos, and on Sunday, New York’s offense struggled again; according to Rodgers, he has to be better.
“In general, I’ve got to play to the standard,” he said. “I know I’m capable of playing, and the rest of that stuff takes care of itself.”
The 40-year-old Rodgers, who threw for 244 yards, two touchdowns, and the three interceptions, came into this game with a knee injury; he got beat up a little against Minnesota, and his ankle was rolled up in the third quarter, which he discussed after the loss.
“I’m definitely banged up,” he said. “Got my foot caught on a pile there. But just seems to be a low ankle sprain. Again, they were trying to get me in the tent, and then we had a roughing the kicker, I said screw it, I’m going back out there.”
According to Rogers, the Jets, who scored over 20 points once this season, need to play to their potential.
“We’re playing below our potential,” Rodgers said. “Too many mistakes. You know, I thought until now, I think we’ve only had two turnovers, which was good because you give yourselves a chance. But we’re slow starters. Too many mental errors. Just too many mistakes in general. That’s hard to overcome, and then you know, I’ve got to take care of the football. Can’t turn the ball over three times and win in this league.”
Rodgers does have to be better. New York’s defense has played well enough in past two weeks to win, but offensively, the struggles continue.
