Daniels, Greenard, Fox named NFC Players of the Week

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Minnesota Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard and Detroit Lions punter Jack Fox are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week for Week 3, the league announced on Wednesday.

OFFENSE

  • Jayden Daniels completed 21 of 23 pass attempts (91.3 percent) for 254 yards and two touchdowns with a 141.7 rating in Week 3, the highest completion percentage in a game by a rookie in NFL history (minimum 20 attempts), surpassing Dak Prescott (88.9 percent, 32 of 36, on Dec. 18, 2016). Daniels also registered 39 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, helping Washington defeat Cincinnati, 38-33.

  • Daniels becomes the third Washington rookie quarterback to win Offensive Player of the Week, joining Robert Griffin III (two times in 2012) and Gus Frerotte (1994).

DEFENSE

  • Jonathan Greenard recorded four tackles and three sacks in Minnesota’s 34-7 victory against Houston. Greenard’s three sacks helped the Vikings become the third team since 1990 with at least five sacks in each of their first three games, joining the 2001 New Orleans Saints and 2000 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • This is the first-career Defensive Player of the Week Award for Greenard, becoming the fifth Minnesota linebacker to receive the award in the past 10 seasons.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Jack Fox recorded five punts, with four landing inside the 20-yard line; three of which landed inside the 10-yard line and one inside the five. His career-high three punts inside the 10-yard line helped Detroit improve to 2-1 after defeating Arizona, 20-13.

  • This is the first-career Special Teams Player of the Week Award for Fox, as he becomes the third punter to earn the honor in franchise history, joining Sam Martin (three times) and Jim Arnold.

  • Fox becomes the first former Rice punter to win Special Teams Player of the Week in NFL history and fifth former Owl to win a Player of the Week award.
