Clippers extend Ivica Zubac

The Los Angeles Clippers have signed Ivica Zubac to a contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, it’s a three-year, $58.6 million contract extension; Zubac gets the maximum available for his three seasons and is now guaranteed four years and $70 million.

“Over the past six years, Zu has become a fixture of our team, selfless and dependable,” said Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank. “He is an elite rim protector, screen setter, and finisher who has made strides every season. We don’t take for granted that we can pencil in our starting center and defensive anchor every night, every year. Zu is a rock for our organization and will remain so.”

Zubac, 27, appeared in 68 games for the Clippers last season, averaging a career-high 11.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 blocked shots. The 7-foot center has appeared in 504 career games across eight NBA seasons with the Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 9.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 blocked shots. Zubac has also appeared in 45 playoff games with the Clippers, ranking third in playoff franchise history in total rebounds (318) and fifth in games played and blocked shots (28).

The eight-year veteran ranks sixth in franchise history in offensive rebounds (1,096) and ninth in total rebounds (3,288).
