On Sunday, we had a surprise at the NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago when the Atlanta Hawks, who had a three percent chance of getting the number one pick, defied the odds and were awarded the number pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Hawks win draft lottery for the first time in team history, and t’s just the second time in Atlanta history that the club owns the first overall pick. The Hawks selected David Thompson with the first pick in the 1975 NBA Draft.
Atlanta is expected to grab Frenchman Alex Sarr with the top pick.
The Washington Wizards, who were represented by guard/forward Bilal Coulibaly, received the second overall pick.
Washington, who had a 13.41% chance of getting the second overall pick, was initially slotted to pick second overall before the unveiling of the draft order.
The Detroit Pistons had the worst record in the NBA, but they will pick number five.
The first round will occur on Wednesday, June 26, at the Barclays Center, while the second round will occur at ESPN’s Seaport District Studios on Thursday, June 27.
