On Tuesday, the New York Giants today filled two vacancies on head coach Brian Daboll’s coaching staff.
Shane Bowen, Tennessee’s defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, will take over the same position with the Giants. Tim Kelly will be the team’s new tight ends coach after serving as the Titans’ offensive coordinator in 2023.
Bowen just completed his sixth season with the Titans, eighth overall in the NFL. Tennessee promoted him to defensive coordinator in 2021 after spending his first three seasons as outside linebacker’s coach. Kelly just completed his second season with the Titans and his 10th season coaching in the NFL. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023 after serving as passing game coordinator in 2022.
In 2023, Bowen, who will be replacing Wink Martindale after he resigned at the end of the season, boasted the No. 1 defense in red zone scoring (allowed touchdowns on 37.7 percent of drives inside the 20), goal-to-go scoring (42.9 percent resulting in touchdowns), and third-down conversation rate in the red zone (23.4).
Bowen joined the Titans after spending two seasons with the Houston Texans as a defensive assistant.
Kelly will replace Andy Bischoff, who left New York to take a similar position with Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers. Before arriving in Tennessee, he spent eight seasons with the Houston Texans, including three campaigns as their offensive coordinator.
He joined the Texans in 2014 as an offensive quality control coach and added assistant offensive line duties in 2016. He served as tight ends coach from 2017 to 2018, and in 2019, he was promoted to offensive coordinator, a title he held through 2021 while also coaching quarterbacks in 2020.
