The Philadelphia Eagles season ended on Monday night in Tampa after they were routed by the Buccaneers 32-9.
Sadly, the career of one of the franchise’s greatest players may have ended as well.
According to Adam Schefter, legendary center Jason Kelce told his teammates in the locker room following the loss that he is retiring.
The 13-year veteran, a six-time All-Pro, was emotional on the sideline near the end of the game against the Buccaneers.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts gave their thoughts on Kelce.
“Yeah, I love him. I love him,” Sirianni said. “Yeah, obviously, we’re not there at that position yet ready to talk about that, but he’s special, and I love him. He’s one of the most special guys I’ve been around. Yeah, obviously always — he’s always got a place here and always want him to play. See what happens as time progresses here.”
Hurts believes Kelce is a legend.
“You know man, he’s a legend in the city,” Hurts said. “Really in the league. I don’t want to do a disservice to him and the things he’s been able to do and overcome. His journey to where he is now didn’t come easy. It’s been a long, long time coming for him, and every year since I’ve been here it’s been, are you going to come back? But he knows how much I love and appreciate him. He knows how much I’ve learned from him. He’ll forever have a special place in my heart.”
When his time comes, Kelce, who is still playing at a high level, will most definitely be a Hall of Famer.
If he is retiring, the Eagles will have some big shoes to fill in 2024.
