Pistons trade Marvin Bagley to Wizards

The Detroit Pistons made a move on Sunday as they acquired forward Danilo Gallinari and center Mike Muscala from the Washington Wizards in exchange for forward/center Marvin Bagley, forward Isaiah Livers and future draft considerations.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons created a $5.7 million trade exception and Washington created a $3.5 million trade exception. In addition, the draft picks the Wizards received will be 2025 and 2026 second-round selections.

Pistons shed Bagley’s contract, who signed a three-year, $37.5 million deal with the team in 2022.

This season, Bagley, 24, appeared in 26 games this season while averaging 10.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists.  Originally drafted No. 2 overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2018, the five-year veteran was acquired from Sacramento as part of a four-team trade on Feb. 10, 2022. He’s still young and has decent ability.

The 25-year-old Livers, who is playing on an expiring contract, was drafted by Detroit with No. 42 overall pick (second round) in the 2021 NBA Draft.  Across three seasons. Livers played in 23 games for Detroit this season while averaging 5.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists.

Gallinari, 35, is averaging 7.0 points in 26 games this season. The 14-year veteran was the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft; the 32-year-old Muscala, who is a 10-year veteran, is averaging 4.0 points per contest in 24 games this season. Both Gallinari and Muscala, who are both good shooters from deep, are on the final year of their contracts.
