On Sunday night, the New York Giants(1-5) lost their fourth straight game as they fell to the Bills 14-9.
Without their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones(neck), and few other starters, New York, who were heavy underdogs to the Bills, battled hard.
New York has struggled in the first half this season, but in this contest, the Giants led at halftime, 6-0, shutting out a team that had scored 88 first-half points in its first five games.
While the Giants played well on defense, they struggled offensively and did not score an offensive touchdown for the third consecutive game.
Taylor, who started his first game since 2021, completed 24 of 36 passes for 200 yards. He also rushed for 24 yards on five carries.
On Monday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll discussed the play of Taylor against his former team.
“I think Tyrod did a good job,” Daboll said. “Threw the ball on time, made some good throws down the sideline to (wide receiver Darius) Slayton, got the ball out of his hands even when there was some pressure so did a good job of leading his team. Obviously, the team thing of 0-for-5 in the redzone, that’s a team thing, so something we’ve go to work on but continue to do that, but I thought Tyrod acquitted himself well.”
Daboll was asked if Jones were healthy would he start against the Commanders next Sunday, but he did not engage.
No matter what happens, the 13-year veteran says he’ll be ready.
“I come into the building each and every day challenging myself to be better, preparing as a starter,” Taylor said after Sunday’s game. “Whatever happens, happens. Obviously, DJ (quarterback Daniel Jones) is the captain of our team, leader on our offense, and our team as well, too. Wish him recovery in everything that he’s going through, but if it’s me, then obviously I’m stepping up to the plate, putting my best foot forward and leading the guys, and if it’s not me, then I’m still in that same position supporting him and doing whatever I can do to help better this team.”
In all reality, if Jones is healthy, he should be the starter. There’s no controversy here.
