The Dallas Mavericks have requested waivers on center JaVale McGee, the team announced on Tuesday.
Last offseason, McGee signed a three-year deal worth $17 million with Dallas and was penciled in as the team’s starting center. However, he struggled early in the season and eventually lost his starting job.
The 35-year-old averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 42 games (7 starts) with the Mavericks last season.
It was a disappointing season for the 16-year veteran, but McGee now gets an opportunity to sign elsewhere.
According to Chris Haynes, the Sacramento Kings are said to be interested in the three-time NBA champion. McGee was coached by current Kings head coach Mike Brown when the two were with the Warriors. Brown was an assistant under Steve Kerr.
