76ers sign G Javonte Smart

On Sunday, the Philadelphia 76ers officially announced the signing of  Javonte Smart.

According ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Smart is signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the 76ers.

Here are notes related to Exhibit 10 contracts, according to hooprumors.com,

• A team can’t carry more than six Exhibit 10 contracts at a time.

• An Exhibit 10 contract can only be converted to a two-way deal before the regular season begins.

• An Exhibit 10 contract that gets converted to a two-way deal can later be converted into a standard NBA contract.

• An Exhibit 10 bonus earned by a player who ends up in the G League or on a two-way contract isn’t counted toward the NBA team’s total salary.

Smart, who had two-way contracts with Milwaukee and Miami, all of which came during the 2021-22 campaign, played in 17 NBA games, where he averaged 3.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in 11.8 minutes that season.

The Louisiana State product saw action in 32 games (12 starts) with the Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G League in 2022-23, averaging 13.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

The 24-year-old guard was a member of the 76ers Summer League roster last month, seeing action in all eight of the team’s games between the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas Summer Leagues.  He contributed 15.3 points on 48.4% shooting (36.1% 3-PT), 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.3 steals throughout all eight contests, scoring in double figures each time. His 16.4 points per game scoring average in the five games played in Las Vegas ranked second on the team, while his 6.0 assists led all 76ers players.
