NFL suspends four players for gambling

After weeks of rumors and reports, the NFL confirmed on Thursday that three players have been indefinitely suspended for violating the league’s gambling policy, and another player was suspended for six games.

Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers and DE Rashod Berry, and free agent DE Demetrius Taylor are suspended indefinitely through at least the conclusion of the 2023 season for betting on NFL games in the 2022 season.

Last season, Rodgers, 25, started nine games for the Colts and also made his mark in the return game on special teams.

Berry, 26, spent most of the 2022 season on the Jaguars’ practice squad and was signed off Jacksonville’s practice squad in January.

Taylor, 24, spent most of the 2022 season on the Lions practice squad, signed a futures contract with Detroit in January, and was released by the team in May.

According to the league, these players may petition for reinstatement after the 2023 season.

After the suspensions were announced, the Colts released Rodgers and Berry.

In addition, Titans OT Nicholas Petit-Frere is suspended for the team’s first six regular season games of the 2023 season for betting on non-NFL sports at the club facility. He can participate in all off-season and preseason activities, including preseason games.

Petit-Frere, 23, started 16 games as a rookie last season for the Titans.

The gambling policy prohibits anyone in the NFL from engaging in any form of gambling in any club or league facility or venue, including the practice facility.

Over the past two seasons, ten players have been suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s gambling policy.
