Springer, McClung push Blue Coats past Vipers in Game 1 of G League Finals

“The Jaden Springer Show” was live and in living color on Tuesday night in Game 1 of the G League Finals at Chase Fieldhouse in Delaware.

On loan from the 76ers, the second-year guard had a tremendous performance as he scored a career-high 43 points, including five threes, as the Blue Coats defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 134-120.

Delaware leads the best-of-three series 1-0. Game 2 is on Thursday night at Bert Ogden Arena.

Springer, who was 14/30 from the field, also added nine rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.

Mac McClung was also big-time for the Blue Coats; the NBA Slam Dunk champion added 35 points and seven assists as Delaware’s starting backcourt combined for 78 of the team’s 134 points.

The Blue Coats led by as many as 26 points in this one and were really never threatened after leading 41-21 at the end of the first quarter.

Last season, the Blue Coats, who are looking to capture their first G League title, were swept by the Vipers in the G League Finals, and they hope to return the favor this season.

At this point, the Blue Coats are flowing; Springer is playing at an elite level right now, and based on how Delaware is playing, this series could end on Thursday night.

Best of the Rest:

Charlie Brown Jr. had 17 points, 15 rebounds, and Michael Foster Jr. (12 points, 13 rebounds) both had double-doubles for the Blue Coats. All five of Delaware’s starters scored in double figures.
