New York Giants kicker Graham Gano was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his four-field goal performance in the 19-16 triumph vs. the Panthers on Sunday, the league announced Wednesday.
The 13-year veteran, scored 13 of New York’s 19 points against Carolina, adding an extra point to his field goals.
Last Wednesday, Saquon Barkley was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week. The Giants last received Player of the Week awards after consecutive games in Weeks 14 and 15 of the 2016 season, when punter Brad Wing earned the special teams honor
Gano hit field goals from 36, 33, 51, and 56 yards, and the game-deciding kick(56) is tied for the second-longest field goal in Giants history.
Sunday was the second game in which Gano kicked two 50-plus yard field goals in the fourth quarter or overtime. He is the only kicker in Giants history to accomplish that feat. He first did it in Washington on Sept. 16, 2021, when he kicked 52 and 55-yarders – plus a 35-yarder – in the fourth quarter.
The current Player of the Week award is the fifth of Gano’s career and this third in three seasons with the Giants.
