Jags’ McCray: ‘I have decided to opt out of the 2020 season’

Jacksonville Jaguars DE/LB Lerentee McCray has opted out of the 2020 NFL season, the team announced on Saturday.

McCray, 29, has appeared in 72 games during his NFL career after originally signing with Denver as an undrafted rookie in 2013. The seven-year veteran played in 24 games during three seasons with the Broncos and four postseason games, including an appearance in Super Bowl 50. He spent one season in Buffalo in 2016, playing in 13 games, before signing with Jacksonville as an unrestricted free agent in 2017.

“With the health and safety of my family in mind, I have decided to opt out of the 2020 season during these trying times in ‘Our Nation,’”  McCray said.  “I will miss being there with my teammates, coaches and Jaguar personnel competing on Sundays, but I feel that God has directed my steps to make this decision. I was honored to be involved in our team’s social justice efforts during this offseason, and I look forward to continuing to support those affected in any way I can.  My family and I appreciate the understanding and support of the Jaguars organization and our fans. We are praying and working for the health and safety for this great country! #toughtimesdontlasttoughpeopledo”

On Friday, Jaguars DL Al Woods made the decision to opt-out of the 2020 season, and now McCray will join him.

The deadline for players to opt out of the 2020 season is still being finalized by the NFL and NFLPA.
