The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that the team has re-signed quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it’s a one-year deal.
Gabbert, 30, originally signed with the Buccaneers last season, but spent the entire season on Injured Reserve after injuring his shoulder in the preseason.
The nine-year veteran entered the league as a first-round pick (10th overall) of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2011 NFL Draft, spending three seasons with the Jaguars (2011-13) before playing for the San Francisco 49ers (2014-16), Arizona Cardinals (2017) and Tennessee Titans (2018). Gabbert has appeared in 56 career games, with 48 starts, completing 842-of-1,498 passes for 9,063 yards. He has thrown 48 touchdowns and 47 interceptions, for a 71.7 passer rating. He has also rushed 176 times for 631 yards and three touchdowns.
Gabbert will battle it out with Ryan Griffin to be the backup to newly-acquired QB Tom Brady. Should be interesting to see who gets the job!
