Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense did everything in their power to beat the Rams on Monday night. Mahomes threw for 478 yards and six touchdowns, but he did throw two picks late in the game, and ultimately the Rams were able to outlast the Chiefs 54-51. The two teams would score a combined 105 points, which is third-highest scoring game in the history of the NFL.
Former Rams and Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil watched the game last night, and according to Vermeil, what he saw last night was just amazing:
“I sort of think that redefines what is called a great football game. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything that compared with it,” Vermeil told TMZ Sports. “I’ve seen a lot of exciting football games, but nothing that really compared with that in terms of points scored. I’ve seen some great 7 to 6 games, three field goals apiece type of games that were exciting and intense, but nothing like that one. My wife and I, we couldn’t get over it.”
We saw some great quarterback play last night in Los Angeles, but if Vermeil had to pick between Jared Goff(413 yards, four touchdowns) or Mahomes, he would go with Mahomes:
“I’ve never seen anything like him. He can do it all. He can throw off balance, upside down and backwards and throw a completed pass,” Vermeil said about Mahomes. “He has unbelievable poise into his first year as a starter. I don’t see any limitations, and he’s being coached by the right people in Andy Reid. I can’t see him getting a “big head,” and getting a distorted ego in any way. I think he has a chance to go down being one of, if not the finest(All-time). “
Mahomes is special and can take the Chiefs very far, but if the Chiefs want to win a Super Bowl in 2018, the K.C. defense is going to have to join the party.
Regarding Mahomes turning into an all-time great, let’s wait and see.
