Report: Aldridge wanted to go back to Portland last season

LaMarcus Aldridge had a bounce-back year for the Spurs this season. With Kawhi Leonard out for most of the year, Aldridge, who was an All-star this season, stepped up for the Spurs; he led the team in points (23.1 ppg) and rebounds per game(8.5).

However, the 2016-17 season was a totally different story for the six-time All-Star. Aldridge was reportedly unhappy with his role in San Antonio, and requested a trade from the Spurs.

According to Bleacher Report, Aldridge, who played nine seasons with the Trailblazers, wanted to go back to his former team:

Last season, a deep rift developed between the team and All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, to the point where Aldridge called former teammate Damian Lillard and asked him to approach general manager Neil Olshey about bringing Aldridge back to Portland, according to the report.

Aldridge and Popovich worked it out, and Aldridge was huge for the Spurs this season. Hopefully for the Spurs, Popovich can work his same magic with Kawhi Leonard.
