Free agent QB Johnny Manziel recently worked out in front of teams at the Texas A&M Pro Day this week. The 25-year-old QB is looking to return to the NFL after last playing in the league in 2015.
According to reports, Manziel met with the New England Patriots before and after the Texas A&M Pro Day.
Could Manziel join the Patriots?
Falcons RB Devonta Freeman thinks New England would be a good landing spot for Manziel.
“I think the sky’s the limit for him,” Freeman told TMZ Sports. “Coach Belichick and all them they do a lot of great things over there. They know how to make guys play. I’ve seen quarterbacks go to receivers; quarterbacks go to DBs. I feel like that’s a helluva group over there just in general. The sky’s the limit for him if he gets the opportunity.”
Freeman explains why Belichick and the Patriots are the right fit for Manziel:
“I think one thing that Belichick does a great job at is understanding the athlete and understanding talent,” Freeman said. “He’s been good at that for years. That’s why he won; that’s why he’s among the greats.”
The Patriots could be the perfect landing spot for Manziel. It gives him an opportunity to learn from one of the all-time greats at the QB position in Tom Brady and gives him a chance to learn from one of the all-time great coaches in Bill Belichick.
I think Manziel will get another shot in the NFL. He’s young and has some ability. That is usually enough to get a player another chance in the league.
