Will someone ‘Do The Right Thing’ and sign Kaepernick?

Spike Lee believes that the Jets or any other team in the NFL should “Do The Right Thing” and sign free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick, who reportedly will stand for the anthem next season, is a free agent after opting out of his contract with the 49ers. According to Spike Lee, it’s “mad fishy” that the Jets or any other team have not given Kaepernick an opportunity.

There have been reports that teams ‘genuinely hate’ Kaepernick, but the biggest question is whether Kaepernick can still play. He was not that bad with the 49ers last season (2241 yds, 16 tds, 4 ints), but he was not all that good either. Could he help a team like the Jets? Possibly? He has been to a Super Bowl,  and he is still fairly young (29).  However, the NFL is not like the NBA. In the NFL, it’s all about the shield! Most players just shut up and play. Kaepernick did not do that in 2016.

Overall, I think the questions are more about what he can do on the field, rather than what is going on with him off the field.  Now, do I think it’s completely based on performance? I think it would be naïve of me or anybody to think it’s all about performance. However, I believe Kaepernick will get another opportunity. Unfortunately, it might take some time!
