Update: As expected, Cavs waive Pelle on Saturday night.

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed former 76ers C Norvel Pelle and converted center Marques Bolden into a two-way contract, the team announced today. 

 Also, the team waived two-way player Matt Mooney, guard/forwards Levi Randolph and Charles Matthews. 

According to cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, Pelle signed an Exhibit 10 contract, sources say, that could allow the Cavs to control his G League rights. Pelle will be waived later this evening, so the Cavs won’t be over the roster limit.

The 27-year-old Pelle, who was waived by the Philadelphia 76ers in November, appeared in 24 games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, averaging 2.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 9.7 minutes. Pelle is a good athlete and a decent shot blocker. 

Bolden, 22, appeared in all four Cavaliers preseason games this year and played in one game for the Cavs last season after signing a 10-day contract on Jan. 30, 2020. In 2019-20 with the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers’ exclusively owned and operated NBA G League affiliate, averaging 9.7 points on .596 shooting, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 18.9 minutes.

Philadelphia 76ers have signed C Norvel Pelle to a standard NBA contract, the team announced today.

Pelle was previously signed to a two-way contract, spending time with both the 76ers and their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

In his rookie season, Pelle has appeared in 14 NBA games, averaging 2.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 11.1 minutes per game. He leads all rookies in blocks per game and ranks 11th with 21 total blocks in 156 minutes. Pelle has posted at least one rejection in 10 of his 14 career games, including a career-high four swats in his NBA debut on Nov. 29 at New York. He’s tallied six points on two occasions; Dec. 13 vs. New Orleans and Jan. 9 vs. Boston, blocking three shots in each of those games.

Over the past two seasons, Pelle has appeared in 43 G League games (32 starts) for the Blue Coats, averaging 11.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 22.8 minutes per contest. His .703 field-goal percentage in 2018-19 led the G League. Pelle was one of five G League players with at least 100 blocks last season and was named to the 2018-19 G League All-Defensive Team, finishing third in voting for Defensive Player of the Year. 

Pelle participated in 76ers training camp prior to the start of the 2018-19 season and represented the team at MGM Resorts NBA Summer League in both 2018 and 2019.

A native of Antigua and Barbuda, Pelle began his professional career in 2013 with the Blue Coats, which chose him with the No. 6 overall pick in the NBA Development League draft. 

In a related move, the team has waived Jonah Bolden.

The Philadelphia 76ers and C Norvel Pelle have agreed to a two-way contract, the team announced today.

Pelle is currently participating in 2019 Philadelphia 76ers Summer League Minicamp and spent the 2018-19 season with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He appeared in 36 G League games (26 starts) and averaged 11.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks (fourth in the G League) in 22.8 minutes per game. Pelle’s .703 field-goal percentage led the G League, while he posted 13 double-doubles, including a 20-20 performance. Following the season, Pelle was named to the 2018-19 G League All-Defensive Team and finished third in voting for Defensive Player of the Year. In May, Pelle was selected to the NBA G League Elite Camp, a league-run, three-day scouting event featuring the NBA G League’s top prospects from the 2018-19 season.

Prior to joining the Blue Coats last season, Pelle participated in 2018 Philadelphia 76ers Training Camp. A native of Antigua and Barbuda, Pelle began his professional career in 2013 with the Blue Coats, which chose him with the No. 6 overall pick in the NBA Development League draft. All told, Pelle has played internationally in Italy, Lebanon and Taiwan, including time with the Lebanese national team.

Per NBA rules, teams are permitted to have a maximum of two players under two-way contracts in addition to the players under standard NBA contracts. A two-way player for the 76ers will provide services to the team’s G League affiliate – the Delaware Blue Coats – but can spend up to 45 days with the 76ers, not including any time spent with Philadelphia
