Coming into the 2018 NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams were picked by many to win the Super Bowl. Mainly, because of what they did in the offseason. The Rams added Ndamukong Suh, Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, and Brandin Cooks to a roster that already had a lot of talent. Many thought those acquisitions, along with Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, and head coach Sean McVay, would put this team over the top, but they have a tall task in front of them.

On Sunday, the Rams can take that next step when they battle the Saints in New Orleans in a rematch of their regular season matchup in which the Saints won 45-35 at home.

This matchup is between two very talented football teams, and these were the two best teams in the NFC during the regular season, and while the Saints have home-field advantage,  Hall of Famer and former Saint Willie Roaf believes the Rams will be difficult to beat because they have more talent than New Orleans, at least on paper.

“On paper, I think the Rams have more talent, and I think that both teams are playing well,” Roaf told the Go4it podcast. “At the end of the year, the Rams had some tough losses at home. The Saint offense wasn’t doing as well at the end of the year, so if we just look at that, we still look at the Tampa game, some of those other games at home. The Saints weren’t just blowing people away, so I would say the Rams are going to be a tough out.”

The Rams may have more talent than the Saints, but the Saints have home-field advantage, and according to Roaf, they have Drew Brees, which could be the difference:

“The Rams are healthier, and they’re more stacked with players against the Saints if you want to look at it on paper,” Roaf said. “Now, you do have Drew Brees, and Drew Brees is one of the best to ever do it in the league.”

It’s hard for me to go against the Saints when they are playing at home in the playoffs. New Orleans may have struggled a little last week against the Eagles, but that could have been rust since the Saints starters, including the regular season, had not played in three weeks.

Who wins? It might come down to who has it last because both of these offenses are big-time, and as we saw with their regular season matchup, there probably will be a lot of points scored, and while the Rams may have more talent, the talent gap is not very significant.
