Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks: A divorce that needs to happen!

Phil Jackson said the obvious on Friday about Carmelo Anthony:

“I think the direction with our team is that he’s a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere where he can win or chase that championship.”

In reality, trading Melo is something that needs to be done, but probably not said. The Knicks stink, and when you stink, you need to trade the player or players that can get you the most back. Who knows what the market could be for Anthony since the world knows he is going to be traded. Plus, he has a no-trade clause, so he can dictate where he goes.

The Knicks are a mess. According to reports, Kristaps Porzingis was too frustrated to even participate in exit meetings.  All this points back to Phil Jackson; Jackson’s tenure in New York has been an awful, dysfunctional mess.  Unfortunately for Knicks’ fans, Jackson has two more years left on his deal.

Back to Anthony for a moment, I don’t understand how a team like the Clippers or even the Celtics could not find a way to get Anthony.  He can get 20 points a night in his sleep! When he plays with big time talent, i.e. the Olympics, Melo dominates, and plays winning basketball. With winning players, Melo would be fine.

In the end, Melo deserves an opportunity to chase a championship, and the Knicks need to rebuild!
