NBA announces Opening Week, Christmas Day schedules

On Tuesday, the NBA announced their national television game schedule for opening week and Christmas Day for its 75th Anniversary season.

The complete schedule will be released on Friday.

Opening Week:

The first four days of the season (October 19-22) will feature eight national television games that will showcase 12 different teams, the last eight players to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award, and three rematches from last season’s playoffs.

The 2021-22 season will begin on Tuesday, October 19, with a doubleheader as the defending NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks host the Brooklyn Nets (TNT) in a rematch of their 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals series, followed by the Golden State Warriors visiting the Los Angeles Lakers (TNT).  

On Wednesday, October 20, a doubleheader opens with the Boston Celtics visiting the New York Knicks (ESPN). In the second game, the defending Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns will host the Denver Nuggets (ESPN) in a 2021 Conference Semifinals series rematch.   

Two Conference Finals teams from last season will take the court in a doubleheader on Thursday, October 21, with the 2021 Eastern Conference finalist Atlanta Hawks hosting the Dallas Mavericks (TNT) and the 2021 Western Conference finalist LA Clippers visiting the Warriors (TNT).

On Friday, October 22, the Philadelphia 76ers will host the Nets (ESPN). In the second game, the Suns will visit the Lakers (ESPN) in a rematch of their first-round playoff series last season.  

Christmas Day:

The NBA will feature five games on Christmas Day.

Christmas Day tips off with the Hawks facing the Knicks in New York (ESPN) in a rematch of their first-round playoff series from last season. This is Atlanta’s first Christmas Day appearance since 1989. 

The Celtics visit the world champion Bucks (ABC), and it continues with the Suns hosting the Warriors (ABC). 

Next, the Nets will battle the Lakers in Los Angeles (ABC/ESPN). 

The Christmas Day schedule will conclude with the Mavericks visiting the Utah Jazz (ESPN).
