The highly anticipated Keith Thurman-Danny Garcia fight was a ratings success. The fight averaged 3.74 million viewers, and ballooned to as high as 5.1 million viewers. The fight aired on CBS.
And Boxing is dead? If you put good fights on free TV, people will watch. Point blank! Period!
Hopefully we will see more great boxing on free TV
Paulie Malignaggi is one of those guys who did a lot with a little. He maximized his talents and it took him very far. He won 36 times, but only had seven KOs. He won titles at the lightweight and welterweight divisions. On Saturday, it all ended for Malignaggi, as he was stopped in the eighth round by Sam Eggington.
Today, he decided to call it quits. He went to social media to make the announcement.
Malignaggi has a great future as an analyst for Showtime Boxing. He is one of the better boxing analysts in the game.
Somebody does not like Floyd Mayweather. Last week his house was burglarized while he was celebrating his 4oth birthday in Los Angeles. On Sunday, Mayweather’s van was set on fire in the UK. Fortunately, no one was hurt. According to reports, the windows of the van were smashed, and the vehicle was ultimately set on fire. Mayweather is currently on his UK tour.
Mayweather has a lot of security. Maybe it is time to increase it!
Keith Thurman started fast and coasted to a split decision victory(116-112, 115-113 ,113-115) over Danny Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The fight started fast and furious with Thurman getting the better of Garcia. As the fight progressed, Garcia became the aggressor as Thurman started to retreat. Goforitgantsports scored the fight 114-114.
Now Thurman has the WBA and WBC belts. Should be interesting to see what is next for Thurman. Maybe the winner of Spence-Brook? Possibly the winner of Porter-Berto?
We shall see!
A fight that had been talked about for awhile now has become official. Shawn Porter and Andre Berto will fight on April 22 at the Barclays Center. The welterweight clash will air on Showtime.
Both Berto and Porter make exciting fights. I believe Porter’s size and strength might be too much for Berto, but time will be the judge of that.
I know for sure the fans will go home happy!
Super Flyweight prospect Dylan Price(1-0, 1 KO) of Sicklerville, New Jersey, has signed a promotional deal with Mayweather Promotions. Price, 18 years-old, turned professional with a 1st round stoppage over Malcolm Speight on February 4th in Wilson, North Carolina
“I want to first thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for blessing me with this great start of my professional career. I had a great time last week at the fights. We took an RV to North Carolina and had 25 of my family and friends front row. Then I get back, and we completed the team with a promotional contract from The Money Team. I am blessed, and I am just excited about my team and my future in the sport. I want to thank Doc Nowicki, my dad Dave Price, Dejuan Blake, Leonard Ellerbe and of course TBE “Money” Mayweather for completing my team,” said Dylan Price
Doc Nowicki, co-manager of Dylan Price said, “I am proud and happy for “Lil Dave” as we call him. He said from the beginning of our conversations that he wanted to be with Mayweather, and now it’s a reality. His team is shaping up nicely and I see big things in store for him”Dave Price, Father and co-manager exclaimed “I’m excited about all of the things that are happening with my sons career. We are expanding our team by partnering with Dejuan Blake and then signing a promotional deal with Mayweather Promotions. LAS VEGAS (February 28, 2017) – The featherweight championship match between Gary Russell Jr. and Oscar Escandon, scheduled forSaturday, March 11 at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland, has been postponed after Escandon was injured in training, according to Escandon’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.
“Oscar suffered an injury to his back in training and he’ll be ready to go in April,” Lewkowicz said. “He’s very sorry for the delay in the fight, but these things happen in boxing. He’s really looking forward to facing Gary Russell, Jr., but he wants to be completely healthy when they do meet.”
Escandon, a 32-year-old Colombian with a record of 25-2 with 17 KOs, is the mandatory challenger for Russell’s featherweight championship. Jermell Charlo defending his 154-pound title against Charles Hatley will be the co-feature on the rescheduled card.
“It’s definitely irritating,” Russell said. “But injuries happen especially when you have somebody pushing their body to the limit for a fight that is potentially life changing. It’s disappointing. It might not work out for him because I have a little more time to get ready.”
“We’re working with the venue and the network to find the earliest date that we an reschedule the show,” said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “I feel terrible for the fighters who have been training so hard and now have to wait. Gary is really disappointed, but he understands that injuries are all a part of the sport. But Gary will be ready to go on the rescheduled date.”
A new date for the fight will be announced shortly.
According to Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao’s Twitter pages, Pacquaio and Khan will be fighting on April 23rd.
Location is undetermined at this time, but earlier reports indicated that it could be in UAE.
This is going to be a fun fight! In my Bart Scott voice: “Can’t wait!”
According to reports, Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan are negotiating a possible fight in Dubai. The fight could possibly take place in April. This is an intriguing fight. Pacquaio was in negotiations to fight Jeff Horn, but who is Jeff Horn?
I would love to see Pacquaio fight Khan or Broner next. We’ll see how this plays out.
