Jets’ Glenn is sticking with Fields

The New York Jets fell to 0-6 after losing to the Denver Broncos 13-11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Sunday.

After a disappointing performance against the Cowboys, where they allowed 37 points and 416 total yards, the Jets’ defense played much better against the Broncos, holding Denver to 13 points and only 246 total yards.

Unfortunately, the Jets’ offense was bad against the Broncos.

Quarterback Justin Fields, who was sacked nine times, completed only 9-of-17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with -10 net passing yards. That’s unacceptable, and Fields took responsibility for the issues in the passing game.

“It wasn’t good enough, and it starts with me,” Fields said. “I got to get the ball out. They got a good D-line. They got to the backfield fast. Once you get in that rhythm, you got to go one, two, get the hell up out of there. That’s kind of what we talked about on the sideline, is just when we get a team that’s getting that much pressure, getting to the backfield like that, one, two, maybe three sometimes, go. It wasn’t good enough, though.”

After the loss, Jets coach Aaron Glenn was asked about a possible quarterback change, which he said is not happening.

“C’mon, man, what kind of question is that?” Glenn responded… “There’s a number of guys. I mean, sometimes this league is like there’s guys that have bad games. That doesn’t mean you just bench them. C’mon, you know better than that.”

Glenn acknowledged that Fields, who in five games have thrown for 799 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, has played a role in the team’s struggles on offense.

“No doubt,” Glenn said. “Justin’s played a role in some of these offensive struggles. No doubt. Everybody’s played a role in that. It’s not just Justin. I understand where you guys are trying to take this. Listen, there’s a number of guys that have picked their game up, too. I don’t want to sit there and pin this all on Justin.”

At 0-6, things look bleak for the Jets, who host the Panthers next Sunday, but Glenn says the team has to keep fighting.

“It is what it is,” Glenn said. “You got to keep working. No one’s going to feel sorry for you. A lot of these other coaches that I’ve talked to that was in this situation, same thing. I mean, it’s not like this hasn’t happened to other teams before. We have to keep fighting our a** off. We got to keep building on the positive that we’ve shown and keep working.”
