For the third time in four seasons, the Las Vegas Aces are WNBA champions after defeating the Phoenix Mercury 97-86 in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals.

The Aces get the sweep and win the series 4-0.

WNBA league MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, A’ja Wilson, was named Finals MVP. Wilson is the first player in WNBA history to win those three awards in one season.

Wilson, who had a game-high 31 points to go along with nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and four blocked shots in Game 4, averaged 28.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals over four WNBA Finals games.

In addition, the four-time league MVP scored the most points(114) in WNBA Finals history.

Wilson epitomizes greatness, and along with Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, and coach Becky Hammon, this group has won three titles together.

According to Wilson, greatness is many things, which she discussed after the win.

“It’s who you’re around,” Wilson said. “This is greatness. This group here, we were battle-tested, top to bottom. We showed up every single day with a mind of being great. Becky(Hammon) gives us note cards, and we write on them exactly what we want our goals to be, individually and team. And this year, she gave us a plan as well. (Players interrupting). I’m trying to be good right now. Our team, you talk about greatness. Greatness is, like I said, just being patient, waiting on your turn, waiting on your moment. I think that’s what defines us is you’ve got to be great when the lights aren’t on you. You’ve got to be great when nobody’s in the gym with you.”

Some have called Wilson the female version of Michael Jordan, and she is honored by that comparison.

“It’s powerful, it really is,” Wilson. “I still have a little more winning to do before you put me in the conversation with him, but when you’re compared to greats, when you’re compared to legends, that means you’re doing something right, and I am so grateful. But I would never be who I am without my teammates. They are the true MJs. They make coming into work really, really good. So I’m appreciative of that.”

Wilson is the best female basketball player in the world, and as long as the Aces have her, they will always have a shot to win championships.
