The Philadelphia 76ers got a solid player in the second round when they selected Auburn forward Johni Broome with the No. 35 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Friday night.
The 22-year-old Brooome was the 2024-25 SEC Player of the Year and Karl Malone Award winner – an honor given to the nation’s best power forward – averaged 18.6 points on 51.0-percent shooting, an SEC-best 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 30.3 minutes in 36 games.
Broome was the only SEC player to average a double-double in the 2024-25 season.
In his final collegiate season, the 6-9 Broome led the Tigers to their first Final Four appearance since 2018-19. He produced 16.8 points and 12.0 rebounds in five contests and was ultimately selected to the 2025 South Regional Team.
Before his impressive three-year tenure at Auburn, Broome honed his skills at Morehead State University, where he was named the OVC Freshman of the Year.
Broome’s performance in the NCAA Tournament solidified his status as one of the top players in college basketball last season, and his potential to contribute to the 76ers immediately is a reason for fans to be hopeful and optimistic about this pick.
