As expected, the Boston Celtics will be without Jayson Tatum for the rest of the playoffs and the foreseeable future.
Tatum underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon, the team announced on Tuesday.
The All-Star injured his Achilles in the fourth quarter of the team’s 121-113 loss to the Knicks in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinals on Monday night. It was a non-contact injury. Before the injury, Tatum was big-time for Boston in Game 4. He had a game-high 42 points.
It’s always disheartening to see our stars fall, and Tatum’s injury was no exception. We can only hope for his swift and complete recovery.
In the playoffs, the 27-year-old has averaged 28.1 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in eight games.
Without Tatum, the second-seeded Celtics, who trail the Knicks 3-1, will have a hard time defeating New York. Tatum’s absence will significantly alter the team’s strategy and gameplay, but there is still a lot of talent on the Celtics, so anything is possible.
