In Week 1 against the Packers, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts threw two of his five interceptions this season and lost a fumble. Three of Hurts’ ten total turnovers this season happened against Green Bay.
In fact, six of Hurts’ ten turnovers happened in the first four games of the season. Over the next 11 games, the two-time Pro Bowler had only four turnovers.
Currently, Hurts, who missed the last two games(concussion), is in concussion protocol, but all signs point to him being ready for Sunday’s matchup against the Packers in the wild-card game at Lincoln Financial Field.
The 26-year-old Hurts finished the 2024 season with 2,903 yards, 32 total touchdowns(18 pass, 14 rush).
On Tuesday, Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore discussed the difference between Hurts in Week 1 and now.
“Yeah, I think [QB Jalen Hurts] he’s just continued to play really, really confident while protecting the football, certainly,” Moore said. “I think he’s done a really good job in that situation. Then a lot of the situational football stuff that comes up, I think each and every week, the two-minute, the handling four-minute situations, when you’re running the football but you still need to be — we have critical third-down passes in those situations. I think he’s just done an excellent job of playing out all those situations.”
Obviously, the Eagles need Hurts to be healthy if they want to make a long playoff run. When he returns, they need him to continue to play clean football, which means no turnovers.
When Hurts starts, finishes the game, and does not turn the ball over, the Eagles are 8-0. Based on how we’ve seen Hurts protect the football since Week 4, not turning the ball over seems doable, which could bode well for the Eagles in the postseason.
