Two-time WNBA league MVP A’ja Wilson made history on Wednesday night in Las Vegas (23-13) 86-75 win over the Indiana Fever (19-18) at Gainbridge Arena.
With 26.4 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Wilson, in a moment that will be etched in WNBA history, scored her 940th and 941st points of the season on a jumper from the free throw line, breaking the WNBA single-season scoring mark of 939 points set by Jewell Loyd in 2023
Wilson finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Aces; Alysha Clark and Tiffany Hayes came off the bench for 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Chelsea Gray rounded out the Aces’ double-digit scorers with 11 points.
The Aces’ win moves them one game ahead of Seattle in the race for fourth place in the WNBA standings. Las Vegas currently owns the tiebreaker over Seattle, having won two of the three meetings between the clubs this year. The two teams will battle one more time in Seattle, a game that could potentially determine the final standings and playoff seedings.
Back to Wilson: She’s having another special season and should be a lock for her third league MVP. With her consistent performance over the years, she has proven to be the best player in the WNBA and maybe even the world.
For the season, Wilson is averaging a league-leading 27.3 points to go along with 11.9 rebounds per contest.
Las Vegas finishes off their four-game road trip and two-game set against the Fever on Friday night.
