Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark continues to astound in her rookie season. In a game against the Wings in Dallas on Wednesday night, Clark delivered a performance for the ages, scoring 24 points, grabbing six rebounds, and setting a new WNBA record with an astonishing 19 assists.

However, the Fever (11-15) were outscored 8-0 in the final 2:22 of the game, and they would fall to the Wings (6-19) 101-93.

Clark continues to make her case for Rookie of the Year. She has recorded a double-double(points-assists) in seven of the last nine games, and currently, she leads the league in assists per contest(8.2).  In addition, Clark leads her team in points(17.2) and steals(1.5) per contest. She has ten 20-point games, which is the most among rookies.

She is having a historic rookie season as Clark reached 400 points and 200 assists in just 26 games, the fewest career games needed in WNBA history.

More importantly, as they enter the All-Star/Olympic break, the Fever are currently the seventh seed in the playoffs and playing some decent basketball.

Before their loss to the Wings, Indiana had been on a winning streak, winning three of their last four games, including two consecutive wins.

After a rocky start to the season, where they started 0-5, Indiana has shown significant improvement, with an 11-10 record in their last 21 games. Losing to the Wings, who have the worst record in the league, is not how you want to go into the All-Star break.

Regarding Rookie of the Year, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is also having a tremendous season. She’s leading the league in rebounds and averaging a double-double with 13.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per contest. Recently, her WNBA record of 15 consecutive double-doubles was snapped.

It’s a two-person race for Rookie of the Year, which will be settled in the second half of the season.
