Giants’ Barkley hopes to finally get a win in Philly

The New York Giants (5-9) travel down the turnpike to battle the Eagles (10-4) in Philadelphia on Christmas Day.
Unfortunately, those trips to Philly have not been a lot of fun for the Giants. The last time the Giants beat the Eagles in Philadelphia was in 2013, when Eli Manning was the quarterback and Tom Coughlin was the coach.
The Giants have not had much success against the Eagles in the last ten years. Since 2013, New York is 4-16 against the Eagles and was swept by Philadelphia last season. New York’s last win against the Eagles was in 2021.
Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who has never won in Philly, says he knows that New York has to start beating the Eagles and Cowboys if they want to be a factor in the NFC East.
“We haven’t been beating Philly,” Barkley said Thursday. “I don’t think that sits well in anybody’s stomach. I don’t think that sits well if you’ve been here for a long time, especially the guys that have been here the longest, (wide receiver) Shep(ard Sterling), myself. We hate saying that we hate answering the questions, ‘How would it feel to win in Philly?’ or to not beat Philly. We’re sick and tired of it. The only way we are going to change that is by going out there and winning a game. For some reason, that’s been a team, and Dallas, those have been the two teams that we struggle to beat over the last couple of years, the last decade to be honest, and if we want to get to where we want to be, those are teams we got to start beating, and that’s just the facts.”
The Eagles have lost three straight and have been struggling of late; however, none of that matters to Barkley. It’s still the Eagles, and it’s still Lincoln Financial Field.
‘We know it’s going to be a tough environment against a really good team,” he said. “We’re not getting caught up in the losing streak that they are in. They’re still Philly. They’re still last year’s (NFC) champions and still great players all around, so we know it’s going to be a tough matchup, and we’ve got to play our best ball if we want to come out of there with a win.”
Based on how the Eagles have been playing, the Giants can win this game. Teams have put points on Philly’s defense, and the Eagles’ offense has struggled, so again, the Giants have a chance. Maybe Barkley can get his first win in Philly after all.
