Rams to host Chiefs in Mexico City next season

NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL announced today at his press conference in Minneapolis in advance of Super Bowl LII.

The date and time of the game will be determined in conjunction with the release of the NFL schedule this spring. The game in Mexico is the fourth international game confirmed for 2018, adding to the three previously announced games in London, and a testament to the NFL’s commitment to growing the game beyond the borders of the United States.

In November, the NFL and Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism announced an agreement to play three NFL regular-season games from 2019 to 2021. The previous agreement covered games from 2016 to 2018.

“Over the past two seasons, we have seen the extraordinary passion that exists for NFL football in Mexico,” Goodell said. “We are excited for another memorable event at Estadio Azteca as the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs head to Mexico City in 2018.”

The Rams and Chiefs will both play their first regular-season game in Mexico next season. The Chiefs played a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys in Monterrey, Mexico on August 5, 1996, earning a 32-6 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

“Southern California and Mexico share strong historic and cultural ties and this game will provide an opportunity to celebrate the special connection between these two regions,” said Rams Owner/Chairman E. STANLEY KROENKE. “It is great to be participating in the NFL’s international games again and working with the league to grow the game abroad. Mexico has one of the largest NFL fan bases in the world and we are excited to bring Rams football to the millions of fans there.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of the NFL’s international initiatives once again, and we are excited to face the Rams at historic Estadio Azteca this fall,” said Kansas C​ity Chiefs Chairman & CEO CLARK HUNT. “The support for the NFL in Mexico has grown significantly since our initial trip in 1996. We look forward to returning to Mexico and connecting with a new generation of fans this season.”

Fans interested in receiving information about tickets for the game, which will go on sale this summer, should register their interest at http://www.nfl.com/mexico/registration. Season ticket members of the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs will receive information directly from the clubs once tickets are ready for sale.

The 2018 Pro Bowl (ESPN, with simulcast on ABC, 3:00 PM ET) will be played on Sunday, January 28 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida and Super Bowl LII will take place on Sunday, February 4 (NBC, 6:30 PM ET) at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Coming into 2017, not many expected the Los Angeles Rams to win the NFC West and make the playoffs. However, they have exceeded everybody’s expectations and then some.

What’s the difference? Gone is former head coach Jeff Fisher. In is Sean McVay, who has helped QB Jared Goff become a big time QB in 2017.

According to their former coach Jeff Fisher, he left the Rams in pretty good shape.

Well, not everybody agrees.

Hall of Famer and former Rams’ great Eric Dickerson gave his thoughts on whether Fisher left the Rams in good shape:

“He left our defense in pretty good shape. Offense? No, absolutely not. Do I think he left the team in a good spot? No, I do not,” Dickerson told TMZ Sports. “Personally, I don’t. I don’t think he helped Jared Goff at all, I don’t think he helped Todd Gurley at all, and I don’t think he helped the offense at all.”

Dickerson gives the credit to McVay and GM Les Snead:

“It’s a totally different football team than what he left, so that credit goes to most definitely the head coach Sean McVay and Les Snead(GM),” Dickerson said. “They’ve done a very good job of putting new pieces in place, and that pieces are Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, drafting guys, Sammy Watkins, and also getting what we need out of Jared Goff.”

Dickerson and Fisher have not always seen eye-to-eye. Dickerson accused Fisher of banning him from the Rams’ sideline last season because of Dickerson’s criticism of the team.

Let’s be honest; Fisher did a lousy job with the Rams. He needed to go. Did he leave the team in good shape? I think he did. While he did not do a lot of winning, he was apart of the brain trust that drafted Goff, who looks like the real deal.  Also, he was apart of the organization when they drafted Gurley, who is having an MVP caliber season.

Therefore, argument could be made that Fisher has left the Rams in pretty good shape.

Colin Kaepernick will miss out on another QB job. After a few weeks of speculation, the Seattle Seahawks went in a different direction, and signed QB Austin Davis. 

The 28-year-old Davis started 10 games, for the Rams and Browns during his career.

So, to recap, Mike Glennon, Brian Hoyer, Nick Foles, Josh McCown, Landry Jones, Matt Barkley, Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Josh Johnson, EJ Manuel, Kellen Moore, Aaron Murray, Chase Daniel, Case Keenum, David Fales, T.J. Yates, Matt McGloin, Blaine Gabbert, and Ryan Fitzpatrick have been signed during this offseason.

All these quarterbacks are better than Kaepernick?

Yeah, okay…

According to reports, Connor Barwin has signed with the Los Angeles Rams for one-year, 6.5 million. Barwin, who was released by the Eagles this off season, is coming off a five sack season in Philadelphia.
