Las Vegas to host 2020 NFL Draft

The 85th NFL Draft will take place on April 23-25, 2020 in Las Vegas on and around the iconic Las Vegas Strip, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced today.

The announcement was made in Dallas at the NFL’s December meeting following a review of the proposal by the Super Bowl & Major Events Committee and full ownership. This is the result of a comprehensive evaluation process over the past several months of plans submitted by various cities to host the 2020 NFL Draft.

“The NFL Draft is one of the most-anticipated events of the year and we are excited to take it to Las Vegas,” said Commissioner Goodell. “We look forward to working with the Raiders, Las Vegas officials and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority to create an unforgettable week-long celebration of football for our fans, the incoming prospects and partners.”

As part of the event, the NFL Draft Experience – a massive free football festival – will enable fans of all teams to participate and test their football skills, enjoy interactive exhibits and autograph sessions, and take pictures with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“The Raiders are very excited for Las Vegas and are proud to help host the 2020 NFL Draft,” said Raiders owner Mark Davis. “Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world and will provide a tremendous experience for the NFL and its fans.”

“We’re thrilled to be selected for this special event and cannot wait to show the NFL and the world a true Las Vegas experience for the draft,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). “The eyes of football fans from around the world will be on Las Vegas in 2020, and our resort partners on the Las Vegas Strip will ensure the draft is as entertaining as our destination.”

The NFL Draft has grown into one of the biggest and most-anticipated sporting events of the year. The 2018 event set a record as the highest-rated and most-watched Draft ever, eclipsing the previous record set in 2014.

The 2018 Draft marked the first time that the entirety of the event was aired on broadcast television, which helped attract more than 45 million total viewers over the three days of coverage. The event also created tremendous fan engagement across social platforms with the 2018 NFL Draft being the second-most talked about sports event of the year so far, behind only Super Bowl LII.

Trilogy wins the first BIG3 Championship Game

Team Trilogy emerged as the class of the BIG3. Trilogy completed their undefeated season by knocking off 3 Headed Monsters 51-46 in the first BIG3 Championship game at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The league’s No. 1 overall draft pick Rashad McCants earned the first ever BIG3 Championship MVP with a game-high 22 points, including the final five points to clinch the title.

The BIG3 had a successful debut. Co-founder Ice Cube has to be happy with what the league has accomplished this summer.

Here are highlights from the title game:

Canelo on fighting Triple-G: ‘This can be one of the best fights in history’

The most popular fight in 2017 will be Mayweather-McGregor, but the best fight in 2017 will probably happen on September 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. On that day, Canelo Alvarez will battle Gennady Golovkin to determine who is the best in the middleweight division.

Alvarez was asked during a conference call on Tuesday how this fight stacks up against other great middleweight battles (Hagler-Hearns, Trinidad-Hopkins) in the history of boxing:

“Yes, without a doubt this can be one of the best fights in history,” Alvarez said through a translator. “On paper obviously it’s going to rival some of those big fights that you mentioned, but it really depends how the fight comes out, how it pans out. I’m going to do my part to make it memorable so I can go down in history as one of the best fights. I know that for sure. I’m going to do my part. But yeah, it can easily be considered one of the best fights in history.”

This should be a great fight. Best Ever? We’ll find out on September 16.

Canelo Alvarez on fighting McGregor: ‘If that miracle was to happen, then it’s a different conversation’

Add Canelo Alvarez to the list of people who believes UFC star Conor McGregor has no shot to beat Floyd Mayweather on August 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Alvarez was asked on a conference call Tuesday about the possibility of fighting McGregor if he beats Mayweather on August 26:

“If that miracle was to happen, then it’s a different conversation. You know, if that miracle was to happen. But I doubt it very much,” Canelo said.

Obviously, if McGregor were to beat Mayweather he probably would stay in boxing, and if Canelo beats Triple-G, Canelo-McGregor could come together and make a lot of money.

McGregor beating Mayweather would probably be a good thing for Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Alvarez!

Bob Arum on slow ticket sales for Mayweather-McGregor: ‘There’s a limited number of suckers’

Legendary promoter Bob Arum has been a huge critic of Mayweather-McGregor. While Arum believes that the fight will be a ‘spectacle,” Arum does not give UFC star Conor McGregor much of a shot to beat Floyd Mayweather.

Arum told TMZ Sports that McGregor “has no chance” to beat Mayweather on August 26.

Ticket sales are reportedly “slow” for this fight, and Arum believes if they lower the ticket prices(ringside seat at $10,000), the fight could be a sell out.

If Mayweather wins on August 26 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, he would be 50-0. However, Arum does not think it matters because he is fighting McGregor, who is making his pro debut. “He does not deserve 50 because he is not fighting a fighter,” Arum told TMZ Sporrs. “He is not fighting a real boxer. McGregor is a good MMA guy, but it’s a different sport.

The fight may not be competitive, but given the opportunity, any promoter in the world would want to be apart of this event.

Lonzo Ball has big time summer league performance while wearing Nike sneakers

Game one was bad, game two was a triple-double, and game three was even better for Lonzo Ball. The 19-year-old rookie dropped 36 pts, 11 asts, 8 rebs, and 5 stls in the Lakers 103-102 victory over 76ers in summer league play out in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

Are we getting a glimpse of what we could see during the regular season and beyond?  We’ll find out!

In an interesting twist, Ball wore Nike sneakers in tonight’s game:

Canelo shutouts Chavez Jr.; Canelo-GGG announced for September 16

“The Battle of Mexico” was not much of a battle. Actually, it was a straight beat down. Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) won every round on all three scorecards (120-108) to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) by unanimous decision in Las Vegas, at a sold-out T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

The fight was not remotely close. Canelo, 26, did whatever he wanted against Chavez Jr. We may have seen the last of the 31-year-old Chavez Jr. after tonight. Junior won the weight battle by making weight on Friday, but he had no shot to win the war.

The biggest and best thing that happened on Saturday night is what transpired after the fight. It was announced that Canelo-GGG will finally fight on September 16. It is a fight that we have been waiting on for a long time.

Golden Boy Promotions and K2 Promotions did a great job of building up this fight. They are doing this fight at the right time. GGG looked beatable against Danny Jacobs, and Canelo looked exceptional on Saturday night. Now, there is a belief out there that Canelo could actually beat GGG.  Expect over a million pay-per-view buys in September.

Canelo-Chavez Jr.: “The Mexican Civil War”

Cinco De Mayo weekend is a great time to figure out who is the “King of Mexico.” At the T-MobIe Arena, in Las Vegas, NV, Canelo Alvarez battles Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the catch-weight of 164.5 pounds in a 12-round non-title fight on Saturday night(HBO PPV).

On the surface, Canelo, 26, (48-1-1, 34 KOs) has been the more active fighter, has fought more championship caliber fighters, and has a better overall skill set. However, Chavez Jr., 31, (50-2-1, 32 KOs) is no bum. He has proven that he has a puncher’s chance, but reportedly, he had to lose a lot of weight to get down to 164 pounds.  The biggest question was would Chavez Jr. make weight? He did that. The next question is how motivated Chavez Jr. will be coming into this fight? In the past, he has not been motivated enough to stop smoking weed. In his biggest fight, against Sergio Martinez in 2012, Chavez Jr. tested positive for marijuana. This could be his last chance to live off his dad’s name, the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. This could be his night of resurrection, or could be the day he goes away.

Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo need this fight. What could be next for Alvarez is a battle with GGG. Other than Mayweather-McGregor (don’t laugh), Canelo-GGG is the biggest fight that could be made in boxing! That does not happen without beating Chavez Jr.  Canelo has GBP on his back. He is their most marketable fighter, and at this point, is the cash cow of boxing.

So who wins?

Canelo is the better fighter. Skills pay bills. With that being said, I see Canelo stopping Chavez Jr. in 8, but Chavez  Jr. will be a live dog early. Chavez Jr. biggest victory was making weight. He won that battle, but he will lose the war.
